I'm wondering, since my next purchase will be an air compressor, what types are you using and what you recommend. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Good timing, me too. I know the Costco one is good, but I am not a member...

I use the Q Industries MV50. It's small, and works quite well.

I looked at Costco one and decided against it due to size. But it is interesting since it has power, jump-start and air functions. More than happy to help someone get it if membership assistance is required.

I just purchased a smittybuilt from 4wheelparts.com. It was $60, compact and rated for up to a 37" tire. It just arrived and I need to test it before heading out on the trail. I'll post up my test results, looking to make sure it can inflate a fully deflated tire in a reasonable amount of time along with the usual reinflating after trail running.

Yikes, I just checked Travis's link to amazon and it is the same compressor as 4wheelparts, but 6 bucks cheaper than what I paid under Christmas special and now $16 bucks cheaper on list price. So if you like this one buy through Amazon.

Yep, Powertank or something similar is the way to go. Works superfast and can still be mounted out of the way in the back of your truck.

of course the cost difference is quite significant if you're talking powertank branded tank/setup anyway. With that said I certainly do not regret the powertank purchase. The speed at which it fills is just awesome, plus you can run power tools and other accessories off of it if you so choose.

Buy what TRDJonnie or Itanius have suggested for compressors. Power tanks are the bomb. According to Crazycarwes you can get a power tank "set-up" from a place called thunerbird cylinder. Yes, compressors are for backup.

I don't have a power tank...that's what Kurt and Wes are for.

I have a VIAIR 400p...$180 complete setup at Desert Rat. Works great...and never runs out of air like a TANK Smile

Oh yeah get some good deflators too! Staun makes adjustable ones ($60) or you can get the simple screw on types ($15).

Another cool air thing are these valves called "No Loss" they are $12 and you will never lose another valve cap again! They are available at SeirraExpeditions...and they give free stickers too!

So this is like a power tank? Sorry if I sound stupid but I'm learning as I go. I should change my name to Newbie_Still_learning_kick_him_in the....well you get the point.

I think jonnie mispoke when he said it doesn't run out of air like a compressor... that should say it doesn't run out of air like a tank. The VIAIR 400P is a compressor.
